Forward Deployed Engineer
Build production systems with strategic customers and turn the hardest deployments into capabilities every FailSafe customer can use.

FailSafe is building SWARM, an agentic offensive security platform that continuously tests applications, APIs, cloud environments, and external attack surfaces. Our agents reason across systems, validate exploit paths, and give security teams evidence they can act on.
Forward Deployed Engineering sits at the seam between that core platform and the environments where it matters. You will lead complex deployments for strategic customers, owning discovery, technical scoping, system design, implementation, integration, and production rollout rather than handing off recommendations.
Your success will be measured by production adoption, meaningful improvements to customer security workflows, and evaluation-driven feedback that shapes our product, models, and research roadmap. You will work closely with FailSafe's engineering, security research, product, partnerships, GRC, and go-to-market teams.
This role can be based in Singapore, Japan, Australia or New Zealand, or the San Francisco Bay Area. Regular travel to work alongside customers is expected and may reach 50% depending on deployment needs.
The opportunity
Why this role
Own the full arc from a customer's hardest security problem to a production system, not a demo, recommendation deck, or narrow integration task.
Write real product code while working close enough to customers to see immediately whether it changes how their teams operate.
Turn field insight into reusable platform capabilities, giving a single deployment the potential to improve the product for everyone.
What You’ll Do
- Own technical delivery across multiple customer deployments, from first discovery and prototype through stable production operation.
- Design and build full-stack systems that integrate FailSafe with customer applications, cloud environments, CI/CD pipelines, identity systems, ticketing workflows, and security tooling.
- Embed with customer security and engineering teams to understand their attack surface, operating constraints, and success criteria, then guide adoption of what you build.
- Translate complex requirements into clear technical scopes, phased delivery plans, architectures, and measurable evaluation criteria.
- Make sound trade-offs between scope, speed, reliability, and security while identifying and removing delivery risks early.
- Contribute directly to production code whenever progress, quality, or technical clarity depends on it.
- Build evaluations that measure exploit validation quality, false-positive reduction, workflow impact, and operational reliability in real customer environments.
- Turn successful deployment patterns into reusable integrations, tools, playbooks, and platform capabilities that improve every future engagement.
- Bring precise field feedback to Product, Engineering, and Research so they understand where our agents and models succeed, fail, and should improve.
- Keep customer and internal teams aligned through clear communication, decisive ownership, and consistent follow-through.
You Might Thrive in This Role If You
- Bring at least five years of software engineering, solutions engineering, or technical deployment experience, including substantial customer-facing work.
- Have scoped and delivered complex production systems in fast-moving, ambiguous, or high-stakes environments.
- Write and review production-grade code across backend and frontend systems using Python, TypeScript or JavaScript, Go, or comparable technologies.
- Understand cloud architecture, APIs, identity, containers, CI/CD, observability, and the operational realities of enterprise deployments.
- Have built or deployed systems powered by LLMs, agents, or other generative models and understand how model behavior, evaluation, and failure modes affect product experience.
- Can move comfortably between an executive conversation, a security architecture review, and hands-on debugging with a customer engineer.
- Simplify complexity, make fast and defensible decisions under pressure, and communicate trade-offs without losing momentum.
- Spot technical, security, and delivery risks early and adjust the plan before they become blockers.
- Bring calm judgment, intellectual honesty, and a strong sense of ownership when the stakes are high.
You’ll Be Especially Strong If You Have
- Hands-on experience in offensive security, penetration testing, red teaming, AppSec, cloud security, vulnerability management, or security operations.
- Deployed security products into regulated or complex enterprises across financial services, healthcare, public sector, telecommunications, critical infrastructure, or technology.
- Built integrations with common security platforms such as SIEM, SOAR, CNAPP, CSPM, vulnerability management, ticketing, and developer tooling.
- Designed evaluation harnesses or feedback loops for agentic or model-driven production systems.
- Worked in an early-stage company where customer delivery directly influenced the product roadmap and required you to operate beyond a narrow job description.
Success Looks Like
- Strategic customers move from prototype to reliable production adoption with clear technical and business outcomes.
- Deployments measurably improve exploitability validation, security coverage, time to decision, or remediation workflows.
- Customer teams trust the systems you build and can operate them successfully after rollout.
- Recurring deployment work becomes reusable product capability rather than one-off customization.
- Field evidence produces concrete improvements to FailSafe's models, evaluations, platform, and roadmap.
Deploy security at the frontier.
Work alongside ambitious security teams, ship systems that change how they operate, and bring field insight back into the FailSafe platform.
